Eva Wei (A.K.A: Molly)
Eva Wei, who is known as Molly for most of the series, is the protagonist of Ōban Star-Racers.
Background
Her life was changed dramatically at age five, ten years before the series takes place, when her mother Maya Wei was killed in a race, and her father sent her away to the Stern Boarding School. On her fifteenth birthday, she escapes the school to reunite with her father, Don Wei. When she first meets her father, she is mistaken for a boy, but as soon as Eva tells him she's a girl, he tells her to leave. But when Don's back is turned, Eva quickly and expertly fixes a Star-Racer, and lands a job as a mechanic. When asked for her name by her father, Eva becomes very intimidated by her father's harsh demeanor, and is unable to tell him who she really is, so she takes on the name of "Molly", after reading it on a nearby poster. After the team lands on Alwas, Eva steps up to be lead pilot for the Earth Team after their star pilot, Rick Thunderbolt, becomes injured after the first race. She becomes friends with some of the other pilots competing in the Great Race of Ōban, and develops a crush on Prince Aikka. She competes in hope of using the Ultimate Prize to revive her mother, believing it is the only way to reunite her family. At the end of the series, she is seen living with her father.
Appearance
Eva is a fifteen year old girl with reddish brown eyes, dyed hair, and with two tattoos. Her eyes are definitely those of her mother Maya Wei. Her pink goggles were also her mother's up until her death. Her tattoos are souvenirs from one of her first runaway attempts. The rectangular one represents a tear while the star symbolizes hope. At the Stern Boarding School, she wears the boy's uniform, with the jacket and white shirt unbuttoned, and a black tee with a black "X" in a red circle on it. On Alwas she is seen wearing the black tee in episode 8 Agile Like Aikka, but is never seen wearing the rest of her uniform. During the Great Race, her uniform seems to be much like Koji's outfit, but with the top of the overalls folded over and the shirt being cut to fit her fashion sense. With the exception of sleeping, she is always seen with her mother's goggles and her pink boom box.
