“Cruel Like Ceres” is the fifth episode of the Cycle Alwas, and the fifth of the overall series. It first aired on May 3, 2006.
Synopsis[]
Rick has returned and appears to be better than ever. However, when mysterious health problems affect Rick's flying, it's up to Molly to find some way to resume piloting duties in the middle of the race.
Full Recap[]
Molly wakes up the next day to find Stan and Koji removing her rocket seat from the Whizzing Arrow II. Rick is now back to full health and retakes his place as the team's pilot. Don Wei gives him a test run in the Arrow II, but something strange is happening to Rick. His hands start shaking violently, and his vision becomes blurred. He almost crashes, but manages to save the ship in time and claims he was just showing off. Molly senses that something is wrong and tries to talk to Rick, but he snaps at her to leave him alone. She later tries talking to Jordan, but he is so star-struck by Rick that he doesn't notice anything wrong. The mechanics think she's just jealous of Rick, and Don Wei won't listen to her at all. Frustrated, Molly turns on her Diskman and rides into the rain on her rocket-seat. Molly finds a spot near the Starting Area to be alone, but Satis interrupts her sulking yet again.
The race begins, and the Earth Team faces Ceres, the representative of the Mong People. His Star-Racer uses gravitational power to levitate. During the race, Rick starts to have his illness return. Almost crashing, he faints. Satis has to tell Molly that she is putting a price on friendship, and that her friends need her to win the race. Molly rides her rocket-seat to the race and catches up to the Arrow II. She and Rick try to catch up to Ceres, who hypnotizes Molly into a trance. Rick wakes her up by turning her Diskman on, and breaks Ceres spell. He crashes into the next curve, and the Earth Team snatches the next win.
Rick is taken back to the hospital for a diagnosis, and it seems that he now has permanent brain malfunctions from his accident with Grooor. During intense moments of stress, Rick will lose vision and joint control. However, he will be fine as long as he doesn't race. Rick takes it hard, as racing is his whole life. But on a good side, Molly is now the permanent pilot, as Rick is unable to race.
